I am a tech entrepreneur and full-time MBA Mama studying finance and entrepreneurial management at The Wharton School. I have experience in technology, law, investment management, impact investing, consulting and non-profit management. I am passionate about tech, empowering women and supporting families.

Me (Watotolly's founder and ceo) during a recent vacation with my daughter, Nyah.

Watotolly was inspired by my personal childcare challenges as a single mom with no family in the greater Philadelphia area. My childcare costs amount to over $20K annually (very brutal on a student budget). I spend an insane amount of time securing and coordinating reliable childcare support which includes vetting potential babysitters and/or nannies, running background checks, Google and social media searches (i.e. borderline stalking), phone calls to references and interviews with nanny candidates.

Watotolly is a tech-enabled peer-to-peer platform that allows parents within trusted communities to easily exchange childcare services with one another. Watotolly aims to help parents find reliable childcare with the click of a button and at much more affordable rates than the standard $15-25 hourly market rate for a sitter.

The value proposition for Watotolly is as follows (and the attached deck provides further context):

  • Never waste another minute searching, interviewing or conducting reference checks to find a qualified caregiver!
  • It is better for caring, engaging fellow parent in your network to watch your child than hire a teen/stranger.
  • Children benefit from increased socialization with kids from other backgrounds.
  • Watotolly facilitates development of tight-knit relationships with other parents from other areas (i.e. Wharton families should totally be linking up with PennMed families #networking #winning).

I believe Watotolly has the potential to revolutionize the childcare industry and create immense value for families all over the world.

Within the last 45 days, I have:

  • Designed and launched website: www.watotolly.com + secured social media properties
  • Been admitted to PennApps Accelerator where I am receiving access to technical expertise and investors
  • Been admitted to Ballard Academy for Student Entrepreneurs (BASE) start-up legal incubator administered by Ballard Spahr Law Firm winning legal services valued at $10K
    • This week, I am forming my legal entity and securing insurance for the company
  • Pitched Watotolly to 450 people at Wharton Women in Business' Start-up Showcase, advancing to three rounds and placing in the final four
  • Recruited management advisory team with expertise in tech, legal and strategy/communications

Last semester, I completed an Independent Study Project analyzing parenting challenges, worklife balance issues, and childcare industry trends. I've also conducted 100+ hours of market and consumer research with millennials in graduate degree programs and have designed Watotolly's pilot by incorporating feedback from parents at institutions: Univ. of Penn, Cornell, Harvard, Univ. of Michigan, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, and Yale.
